Shaving Safely

Many people like the look and feel of a shaved pubic area, on both themselves and others. There is more to being sleek and smooth "down there" than just hacking away with a razor. Here are some tips and tricks to getting a smooth and safe shave.

Tip one is to trim any long hair. If this is the first time you are shaving, or it has been awhile and the hair is long, you should trim it up first. Use a trimmer or electric razor, or if you must use scissors be very slow and careful, preferably using a comb as a guide to not nick your skin.

Once you are all trimmed, thoroughly wash and exfoliate the area before shaving. Oils, dirt, and dead skin cells can easily gum up the works of even a brand new razor and cause issues with getting a good shave. Use a loofah, exfoliating sponge, moisturizing scrub, or even just a washcloth to scrub the area gently before shaving. This will leave a smooth surface for getting a close shave.

Hydrate your skin before you begin. Take at least five minutes to soak in the bath or stand in the shower before beginning. This will hydrate the skin and hair, making for an easier and smoother cut. Next, lather up with plenty of your favorite shaving cream, gel, or lotion. At Badd Kitty, we suggest the Coochy Cream line of luxury shaving cream. The full line is available on this site! The lubrication will avoid razor burn and ensure the closest shave.

Now that all the prep work for a good shave is done, you can get down to business. Use a clean, sharp, new razor. If you feel any tugging at all while shaving, replace the blade. This is a good general rule for shaving any part of the body, but the skin around your genital region is especially delicate and prone to razor burn from dull razors. Use a light touch, and let the nice, sharp razor do the work. Use steady strokes, in the direction of hair growth. Use caution and patience when shaving around the curve of the labia or the shaft of the penis. When shaving the scrotum, pull the skin taut with one hand and carefully shave with the other. Rinse the blade often to keep the blade clean and gliding smoothly. Do not be afraid to reapply your shaving media to keep the area nice and slick as you are shaving.

After shaving, rinse the area thoroughly with cool water, and clean the razor well for future use. Pat the area dry and use a scent and alcohol free moisturizer. It has also been suggested to use a scent free solid deodorant on the area to avoid razor burn and bumps. There are also ingrown hair solutions available to help kill bacteria and close pores to prevent bumps and ingrown hairs.

With a little care and prep work, a safe, close, and silky shave is within your reach. Use these tips to achieve the look and feel you want to achieve.
