Libido Is A Spectrum

Libido Is A Spectrum

Our libido is a spectrum. It ebbs and flows day to day, week to week, year to year. We all experience times our libido is supercharged, and times it could use a kick in the proverbial pants. This is normal but not always fun. When we need a recharge, here are some ways to get it kick-started.

  • See a doctor

There are many medical reasons your libido could be low. From underlying medical conditions to a reaction to medications, going to your doctor first could uncover the reason for your low libido. Especially if you have been suffering over a long period, be sure to check in with your healthcare provider before going forward. They may even mention some of the tips below to you and your partner. Remember, just because you see your doctor does not necessarily mean you need medical intervention like new medications for low libido, so do not let that fear keep you out of the office.

  • Focus on your health

Focusing on your physical and mental health can be the key to a healthy libido. Eating right, getting enough sleep, regular exercise can keep your body ready for sex. We also mentioned mental health. Getting anxiety under control will help you enjoy your sex life. Talk to a therapist to get any anxiety or depression back to your normal levels.

  • Try aphrodisiac foods

Certain foods are reported to have aphrodisiac qualities. Try incorporating some of their tidbits into your diet to get the sex drive revving again. Bananas, avocados, chocolate, and garlic are just a few examples of food that have been historically viewed as an aphrodisiac. Check out our blog post, A Sexy Little Snack, for a complete listing of food to try.

  • Work on your relationship

Getting close to your partner emotionally can help bring you closer physically. Going on dates, talking to your partner, just generally making an effort to be a strong couple can make a world of difference in your sexual relationship.

  • Masturbate

Sometimes you need to prime the pump of desire. Even if you are not feeling sexual, sometimes masturbation can get your body ready for more intimate acts with your partner. You may work up to mutual masturbation.

  • Try more casual touch with your partner

We have talked about the benefits of hand-holding here on the blog. Take it a step further. Touching each other outside of sexual touch creates a connection. This physical communication is essential for any relationship and can help lay the groundwork for sex down the line.

  • Work on your self-image

If you have trouble with confidence, it might leak into your sex life. Feeling confident and feeling sexy often go hand in hand. Whether you have hang-ups about your self-worth or body image, working through these issues can help boost confidence, self-esteem, and sexual intimacy.

We have repeatedly said here at Badd Kitty sexual health IS health. We all have low libido as a natural part of our lives. If, however, your low libido is negatively affecting your life, take some steps to take back control of your sexual health.
