Choosing a black corset
Black is the most versatile color in corsetry: it reads as lingerie with stockings and garters, and as a top with jeans or a skirt. The difference between styles is the fabric over the boning and how it closes. Badd Kitty has about 10 black corsets and black bustiers in stock from $64.95 to $117.95.

How to wear a black corset top
Satin and lace-over-satin corsets, like the Lavish and the Shirley of Hollywood Satin Corset, are opaque enough to wear out. Pair them with high-waist jeans, a pencil or slip skirt, or under an open blazer, and remove the garter straps first. The sheer styles (fishnet, flocked mesh, the underbust with G-string) are bedroom and boudoir pieces: add thigh highs and clip them to the corset's garters. An underbust corset can also go over a fitted black shirt for an evening look.
Fit and sizing
Measure your natural waist, the narrowest point of your torso, and use the size chart for that brand. If you are between sizes, go up: a corset should close at the front with an even gap at the laces, not be forced shut. The corset guide walks through measuring and lacing step by step.
Care
Spot clean when you can and hand wash cold when you must, with the laces removed or tied. Never machine dry; heat warps plastic and acrylic boning. Store it flat or folded at the side seams, not across the bones.

Frequently asked questions
How do you style a black corset top?
Wear an opaque satin or lace-over-satin corset with high-waist jeans, a pencil or slip skirt, or under an open blazer, with the garter straps removed. Keep sheer fishnet and mesh corsets for the bedroom.
How tight should a corset be?
Snug, not breathless. You should be able to sit and breathe normally, and the laces should leave an even, parallel gap down the back.
What size black corset should I buy?
Measure your natural waist, the narrowest point of your torso, and use that brand's chart. If you are between sizes, size up so the front closes without forcing it.
Do black corsets come in plus sizes?
Yes. The Daisy Corset Lavish Black Lace Corset runs to 3XL, and Fantasy Lingerie and Shirley of Hollywood make plus versions of their black corsets.
How do I care for a black corset?
Spot clean when possible, hand wash cold when needed, and never machine dry. Store it flat or folded at the side seams, not across the boning.
