When to reach for silicone lube
Silicone lubricant stays slick for a long time, does not absorb into skin, and works in water, which makes it the choice for anal sex, longer sessions, shower play and skin-to-skin sex. A few drops go a long way. The one rule: on silicone toys, check the toy maker's guidance or patch-test first, because it can soften and degrade the surface of some. Use it freely with glass, steel, hard plastic and your own hands, and wash toys with soap and water or a toy cleaner afterwards.

Brands in this collection
Pjur, the German silicone specialist, and Intimate Earth make most of these, with Sensuva, La Nua and Wicked rounding out the range. If you own silicone toys, choose water-based lube or a hybrid instead; for anal-specific thick formulas see anal lube, and for the full range browse lube and lubricants. The best lube for anal explains why silicone wins for backdoor play.

Frequently asked questions
Is silicone lube safe with silicone toys?
Not always. Silicone lube can bond with and degrade the surface of some silicone toys, making them tacky, so check the toy maker's guidance or patch-test a drop on the base first. Water-based or hybrid lube is the safe default with silicone toys; silicone lube is fine on glass, steel and skin.
Is silicone lube safe with condoms?
Yes, silicone lube is compatible with latex and polyisoprene condoms and is often used on them because it does not dry out.
What is the difference between silicone and water based lube?
Silicone is slicker, lasts far longer, is waterproof and needs soap to wash off; water-based is lighter, works with every toy and rinses away with water.
Does silicone lube stain sheets?
It can leave a mark on fabric. Put a towel down, and wash sheets with a little dish soap on the spot before the regular cycle.
Is silicone lube the best lube for anal?
Many people prefer it for anal sex because it stays slick without reapplying. Thick water-based anal formulas are the alternative if you are using silicone toys.
