How to choose a delay spray or desensitizer
Separate the two jobs. For lasting longer, choose a delay product by format: Stud 100 spray from Body Action Products is the best known and fastest acting, Jo Prolonger from System Jo is the gel alternative, Doc Johnson Rock Solid cream lasts longer, and Screaming O Dynamo wipes are pre-dosed for travel. For anal play we don't recommend numbing products, because pain is the signal to slow down; relaxing gels from Intimate Earth and Sensuva are milder, but patch-test first and rely on time, warm-up and plenty of lube. Prices run $14.95 to $39.95. Delay products work best with pacing and good lube from lube and lubricants; anal gels pair with anal lube. Read our men's pleasure guide for pacing techniques that need no product at all.

Frequently asked questions
How does delay spray work?
Most delay sprays use a mild topical anaesthetic such as lidocaine or benzocaine to reduce sensitivity in the head of the penis for 30 to 60 minutes. Stud 100 is the classic; check each label for the active ingredient and strength.
How do you use a delay spray?
Apply two to three sprays to the head and frenulum 10 to 15 minutes before sex, let it absorb, then wipe off any excess so it does not transfer to your partner. Start with fewer sprays than you think.
Is a desensitizer safe for anal sex?
We don't recommend numbing products for anal play: pain is the signal to slow down. Relaxing gels from Intimate Earth and Sensuva are milder, but patch-test first and rely on time, warm-up and plenty of lube.
Delay spray or delay cream: which is better?
Spray is faster to apply and easier to dose; cream or gel lasts longer and is less likely to drip. Wipes suit travel. All work best combined with pacing; skip them while wearing a cock ring, so you can feel the warning signs.
Will delay spray numb my partner?
It can if you do not wipe off the excess or wait for it to absorb. Use a condom or wash off residue before penetration or oral sex to keep sensation on their side intact.
